Vector Lights for Conservation Week

Vector Lights

Vector Lights celebrating 50 years of Conservation Week - The story behind the show:

Tāmaki Makaurau is home to some of the world’s most unique plants and wildlife.

We’re lucky to call this place home and it’s important we protect it for future generations.

The mighty kauri is at risk from kauri dieback disease; we could lose it within 30 years.

With more than 4,000 of our species threatened or at risk, New Zealand’s wildlife is in crisis.

Twenty percent of those species, over four hundred of them, are in the Auckland region.

Thirty percent of the region’s native vegetation remains.

This Conservation Week we want you to think about what you can do, big or small, to make a difference.

There are plants found only in Aotearoa, like the harakeke - flax or the beautiful kowhai.

Our rivers and streams flow into our treasured marine environment.

Seabirds come from all over the world to breed in the Hauraki Gulf, home to dolphins, whales, seals and penguins who need our help.

Millions of native birds die every year because of pest rats, stoats and possums.

No one wants to see our kokako or kiwi become extinct.

We can help make Auckland pest free by 2050.
