The Vector and Auckland Council “Design The Future” Competition

By entering this Competition, entrants are deemed to have read, understood and accepted the following terms and conditions:

A. Competition

  1. This competition is for the ‘Vector Lights on Auckland Harbour Bridge’ event (“the Competition”). The promoters are Vector Limited and Auckland Council (“the Promoters”). The Promoters are supported by NZTA, Panuku Development Auckland and ATEED (“Supporters”).
  2. To be eligible, entrants must be a school student (including home schooled students) in years 3 through to 8 (“You”), and have the consent of their parent or guardian to enter.
  3. To enter the Competition, You must submit your Competition entry via the Vector website at www.vector.co.nz/designthefuture or by post, to ‘Design the Future competition’, Vector Ltd, 101 Carlton Gore Rd, Auckland (“Competition Entry”). Only one Competition Entry per entrant.
  4. The Competition commences on Wednesday 25 October 2017, and prizes will be drawn week commencing 11 December 2017.
  5. By entering this Competition, You agree that the Promoters may display your Competition Entry online at www.vector.co.nz/designthefuture, on the Promoters’ and Supporters’ websites, news and social media sites, and physical sites including Auckland Council Libraries and Service Centres, as well as an information kiosk in Wynyard Quarter. Entries may also be displayed in news media in order to promote the Competition and Vector Lights.
  6. You will retain ownership in the Competition Entry, however, agree to grant to the Promoters and Supporters a worldwide, exclusive and royalty free licence to use, reproduce and otherwise use the Competition Entry for promotional purposes.
  7. You warrant that:
    • all information submitted is true, current and complete; and
    • the Competition Entry is an original artwork that does not violate the privacy rights, publicity rights, copyright or other intellectual property rights of any person or entity.
  8. The Promoters reserve the right to disqualify any entrant who does not comply with these terms and conditions.


B. Entries, selection and prize draw

  1. There will be one winning entry and one runner-up for each age/year category. The categories are: a) years 3-4, b) years 5-6, c)
    years 7-8.
  2. The winners will be selected by a panel of three judges: Auckland’s Mayor Phil Goff, Vector’s CEO Simon Mackenzie, and Nanogirl, Michelle Dickinson.
  3. The winners will have their first name, age, school and/or suburb published online at www.vector.co.nz/designthefuture, on the Promoters’ and Supporters’ websites, news and social media sites, as well as an information kiosk in Wynyard Quarter. Entries will also be displayed in news media in order to promote the Competition and Vector Lights.
  4. The Promoters will contact the winners’ parents or guardian by telephone or email as supplied by You and ask for written consent to publish Your winning entry and Your name, age and place of residence (suburb only). 
  5. If the Promoters do not receive such consent (which may be provided by e-mail) from the parent or guardian of the winner, they may award the prize to another entry for which they are able to obtain such consent.
  6. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.


C. Prizes

  1. The prize for the winning entry in each category is:
    • Turning on Vector Lights on the Auckland Harbour Bridge, alongside two other category winners (“the Launch Event”)
    • Family Pass to Vector Wero Whitewater Park
    • Solar model kit
  2. The prize for the Runners-up in each category is:
    • Invite to attend the Launch Event
    • Family Pass to Vector Wero Whitewater Park
    • Solar model kit
  3. Prizes are not redeemable for cash and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or promotion and have to be used on the validated date.
  4. If a prize or part of the prize becomes unavailable (for any reason), the Promoters reserve the right to limit entry, cancel or amend the prizes at its own and sole discretion, including providing the winners with a substitute Prize.
  5. If a winner is unavailable to attend the Launch Event, then the runner-up from the same category may attend in their place and turn the lights on. The winner will still receive the remainder of their prize.


D. Privacy

  1. When submitting your Competition entry, You must provide your name, age and address and the name and contact telephone number of your parent or guardian.
  2. The information provided will only be used in relation to the Competition (including checking your eligibility to enter and contacting your parent or guardian) and will not be used for any other purpose. All information will not be kept longer than is necessary for the purpose of the Competition.
  3. All information provided by the entrants will be collected, used, stored, disclosed and corrected in accordance with the Privacy Act 1993. All entrants have the right to access their information and request for any personal information to be corrected.


E. Exclusions

  1. The following entrants are not eligible to win any prize:
    1. Anyone who works for the Promoters, Supporters, Auckland Council controlled organisations and any agencies or companies associated with the Competition and their immediate family members.
    2. Anyone not in Years 3 to 8 at school (includes home school)
  2. This competition is open nationally. However, the Promoters cannot provide transport for winners to the launch event in Auckland.
  3. The Promoters reserve the right to exclude any entrant from participating in the Competition at their sole discretion.
  4. The Promoters also reserve the right to refuse to award a prize to an entrant who is in breach of these Terms and Conditions, gained an unfair advantage in participating in the Competition or won a prize by using fraudulent means.
  5. The Promoters will not be liable for any claims for loss, damage or injury whatsoever or for any physical or mental injury suffered by You as a result of or in connection with the Competition or due to the prize won in the Competition.
  6. The Promoters reserve the right to amend or change these Terms and Conditions at any time at their sole discretion, including extending, postponing or cancelling the Competition.
  7. These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of New Zealand and shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of New Zealand courts.
