Unplanned power outages
Is your power out now? Check your address to see if it is affected by a current power outage. If not, report your outage and we will investigate.
The difference between planned and unplanned power outages
- Planned power outages are scheduled so we can complete important maintenance or improvements on our network
- Unplanned power outages can be caused by cars hitting our power poles, birds/helium balloons flying into power lines or bad weather causing tree branches to touch our overhead lines. In a severe storm, unplanned outages often occur.
To give you more information about an unplanned power outage and when to expect power back on, the Outage Centre will now report outages as minor, moderate, major or complex. This will occur soon after our crews first get to site and will give an estimated time of restoration. As the repair gets closer to completion, crews will give a confirmed restoration time.
Update to our outage text messages
You may notice that some of our outage text messages now come from a 4-digit number (5877), instead of a mobile number.
We’ve introduced this to make our messages easier to recognise and help you feel confident they’re really from us. You’ll continue to receive the same outage updates as before, just from a more recognisable number.
During May and early June, you may still receive some messages from our existing mobile number (+6421 011302 062) while we complete the transition. To find out more, read our FAQs below.
Steps to resolve an outage
While power outages can be frustrating, the safety of our crews and the public is our priority, so there may be times when fault repairs have to be delayed until it’s safe for our crews to start work.
Unfortunately, no network is 100% fault-proof. We cannot guarantee an uninterrupted supply of power, so if you use medical equipment that relies on electricity, please make sure that you’re prepared for power disruption and enact your back-up plan when required.
If you have a health concern, contact your health provider – in an emergency contact 111.
If you use medical equipment that relies on electricity, we recommend that you register your medically dependent status with your electricity retailer.
