How the lights work?
Smart Energy Behind the Sparkle
Vector Lights is powered by advanced clean energy technology:
- Solar panels capture energy during the day
- Tesla Powerpack battery stores that energy for use at night
- Smart meters on the bridge and battery communicate every 10 seconds
- Peer-to-peer tech ensures only the exact amount of energy needed is released—no more, no less
This is how we light the bridge responsibly, showcasing a smart energy solution in action.
A Bridge Built for Change
The Auckland Harbour Bridge has always symbolised progress and connection.
- Built in 1959, it linked the North Shore with the central city, transforming Auckland’s growth and economy.
- Originally planned as a six-lane bridge with footpaths, it was scaled back to four lanes due to cost.
- Within 10 years, traffic exceeded expectations—over 10 million cars crossed annually by 1965.
- In 1969, four "clip-on" lanes were added, a bold engineering move that gave the bridge its current eight-lane layout.
