New gas connection
When you request a new electricity connection from us, the first thing we do is to install a connection supply point - this is where our network connects to your private service line. Once we have done this, or the supply point is already available, we will provide you with a unique installation control point (ICP) and organise the livening of the connection with your power retailer.

Process and Timeframes:
- The proximity to the gas main
- The number of connections you require
- Whether an easement is required to allow Vector owned gas and electricity equipment to be installed and to remain on private property and to provide us ongoing access and maintenance rights in respect of that equipment
- Whether multiple meters are placed together (meter bank) and if we need to connect to a gas main made out of steel
- The condition of the soil (e.g. rock will take longer and will cost more)
- Whether traffic management services are required (as these are managed by third parties)
- Whether you need an arborist report and resource consents
- Other technical, legal, regulatory and administrative factors (including resource constraints)
Once we have assessed your requirements, we will let you know which category your request falls into so that you know what to expect in terms of the process and approximate timeframes.
