New complex gas connection

Once we have assessed your new connection application, the connection process is described as a ‘complex connection’ if the job requires a customer works agreement and easements (if applicable) as they have longer timeframes.

If you need both gas and electricity connections, please request them separately. Commercial gas connection and subdivisions must be requested by contacting 0800 22 22 60.

Office closure during Christmas and New Year 2025-2026

Please be advised that Vector offices will be closed from Wednesday, 24 December 2025, with staff returning on Monday, 5 January 2026. Our Service Providers will be closed from Monday, 22 December 2025, and will resume work on Thursday, 8 January 2026. During this period, only a skeleton crew will be available to manage emergency works only.

We will endeavour to design, contract, and commence build activities for your request within reasonable timeframes. Please note in some circumstances we are constrained by Auckland Council moratoriums, scheduling restrictions, supplier lead times, outage restrictions, and closures which may impact your project timeframes.

Only projects for which we have received the signed agreement and full payment prior to Friday, 17th October 2025 will be considered for scheduling prior to the end of 2025 year shutdown period. This is subject to volumes and availability of our crews, and we will keep you informed of your project timeframes.


Before you apply

Please collect the following information before you apply:

  • Name of your gas retailer
  • Resource consent documents for subdivisions
  • Site plan, lot layouts, location of other services including trench profiles
  • Proposed meter locations
  • Whether you require service laterals (pipe that connects the gas from the gas mains to the house)
  • Preferred timeframes
  • For commercial projects: the details of gas meter room, engineer / consultant contact details and a gas loading estimate


Our Process


Initiate

Contact us on 0800 22 22 60 requesting a new complex gas connection. You'll usually receive an indicative quote within 10 working days

Design

You will need to pay for the design cost for the job to proceed. We'll usually advise you within 1 week after payment when the design will be completed.

Contract and payment

Once we’ve received design approval, we will aim to send you a customer works agreement within 5 working days (that is valid for 45 days).  We'll then contact you to schedule the work once the agreement has been signed and payment received.

Build and Variations

Work will usually begin approximately 6 weeks after receipt of payment.

We finish the work


Timeframes

We will endeavour to design, contract, and commence build activities for your request within reasonable timeframes. Please note in some circumstances we are constrained by Auckland Council moratoriums, scheduling restrictions, supplier lead times, outage restrictions, and closures which may impact your project timeframes.


The process and timeframes may vary depending on a number of factors, including:

  • The number of connections you require
  • The proximity to the gas main
  • The conditions of the work site and the complexity of the job and therefore the design
  • If an easement is required to allow Vector owned equipment to be installed on private property for ongoing maintenance access
  • Vector’s current work volumes and availability of contractors
  • The availability of traffic management services (as these are managed by third parties) and equipment required
  • Whether the connection will serve a property that is used for residential or commercial purpose
  • Other technical, legal, regulatory and administrative factors (including resource constraints)
