Changes to gas network prices

We publish this pricing disclosure annually under the Commerce Commission’s (Commission) Gas Distribution Information Disclosure Determination 2012(as amended from time to time).

Our gas prices are for the service we provide in delivering gas on our Auckland gas distribution network. Our prices do not include the cost of delivering gas on the national gas transmission network.

The Commission regulates our gas distribution prices under its Gas Distribution Services Default Price-Quality Path Determination. The fourth gas default price-quality path, known as DPP4, applies to us from 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2031. We have set our prices from 1 October 2026 to comply with the first-year revenue allowance under DPP4. This allowance comprises the Commission’s starting revenue together with pass-through and recoverable costs such as council rates and statutory levies.

From 1 October 2026, our standard gas distribution prices will increase by a weighted average of 12.7% and 12.6% overall when we include non-standard distribution prices. The increase is primarily due to the transition to the new DPP4 revenue allowance, which includes the impact of the Commission’s updated cost of capital and depreciation allowances.

We have not made any structural changes to our standard prices. We have retained our existing consumer groups and price categories and applied the same weighted average increase to the fixed and variable components of the standard prices. This approach avoids materially different percentage changes within standard consumer groups during the transition to DPP4 (assuming constant usage).

For residential consumers, the fixed daily price will increase from 99.19 cents per day to 111.76 cents per day. The residential variable price remains at zero. The table below summarises Vector's standard gas distribution prices. All prices exclude GST.

How you pay our distribution prices

If you use natural gas, you will likely have a contract with a gas retailer to supply gas to your home or business.

Vector charges gas retailers for using our Auckland distribution network. Retailers usually combine our distribution charges with other costs and charge you a single amount. These other costs can include the cost of gas, transmission services and metering etc.

Each retailer decides how and when to pass the changes in Vector’s distribution pricing on to its customers. The actual effect our price changes may have on an individual customer’s bill will depend on their retailer, their pricing plan and their individual gas use.
