Project File
We are carrying out an upgrade project to reinforce part of our gas network in the area. We will be replacing the low pressure cast iron network pipes with new medium pressure pipes. This includes replacing customer service pipes - the pipes running from the network in the street to the gas meter on the house - and we will also replace some gas meters.
The work will increase the gas capacity to provide for new connections and enable a full range of gas appliances to be connected to our network.
Find out more about the benefits of natural gas here.
Project timing: 23 November 2009 – 26 March 2010 Work will be carried out in sections and should only directly affect the road frontage outside properties for a small amount of this time.
Streets affected: Alexander St, Baldwin St, Beatty St, Church St, Cracroft St, Fairburn Rd, part of Great South Rd, Jelicoe St, Nelson St, Ngaio St, Nixon Ave, Papaku Rd, Piki Thompson Way, Pukeora Rd, Ronaki Rd, Sturges Ave, Tahatai St , Tamaki Ave and Waikare Rd
How will the work be carried out?
Most of the new network pipes will be inserted into the existing gas mains and we will need to dig pot holes at intervals to access the existing pipes. In some places we may need to dig trenches.
Will the work affect my driveway?
In the unlikely event that our work affects any driveways, we will consult with affected customers before we begin work and will ensure that access is maintained while the works are underway.
Work on customer service pipes and meters:
We will consult with gas customers before we start this work on their service pipes and when the gas supply is restored we will make sure their gas appliances are switched back on and are working safely. Work on each customer service should only take one day to complete. The gasfitter working on your property will check your installation free of charge before they start work and if any faults are found they will advise you so you can contact your own gasfitter.
Hours of work: Our hours of work will generally be from Monday to Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm.
Will the gas supply be affected?
Sections of the gas network will need to be isolated while we are working and this means that there will be short, temporary, gas supply interruptions. We will also need to switch off individual customers when we are replacing their gas service pipes and/or meter on their property.
These supply interruptions will be temporary and we will liaise with customers beforehand.
What if I smell gas?
At times you might be able to smell gas when we are accessing the existing pipeline. Please do not be alarmed, the gas will disperse quickly and safely. Our work is being carefully managed and all safety precautions are being taken.
Traffic and pedestrian management: To ensure a smooth flow of traffic, full traffic management plans have been developed and will be used throughout the duration of the project. In most cases, the directional flow of both traffic lanes will be maintained. The work sites have been designed so that pedestrians will still be able to pass by the works.
Interested in connecting to gas while our crews are working in your street? We must have your application before we start work in order to coordinate with our contractor.
Please call Lawn Heat & Leisure on 09 576 5225 for gas appliance deals, or provide us your details now and we will arrange a quote.
Every effort will be made to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. We apologise for any inconvenience this project may cause and thank you for your patience and cooperation while the work is underway.
