Project File

Vector is carrying out undergrounding of the overhead lines on the Western side of Cheshire Street; a road crossing on Gibraltar Crescent; and down Ngahere Terrace. A new street light installation is included in the project.

This work is being undertaken as part of the Auckland Energy Consumer Trust (AECT and Vector’s long term plan to put the remaining overhead power lines underground in the urban areas of Auckland, Manukau and Papakura.

‘Dig once’ strategy
As part of our ‘Dig Once’ strategy we will be coordinating our work with Telecom, and the overhead power and telephone lines will be replaced with underground cables at the same time. We are also working with Auckland City Council who will be installing new streetlights as part of this project.

Streets affected by this work include: - south end of Cheshire Street; a road crossing on Gibraltar Crescent; and down Ngahere Terrace

Project timing: August 2010 – September 2010

Project details:
All overhead lines in the street, and customer power and phone lines on the Southern End of Cheshire Street and down Ngahere Terrace will be undergrouded. We will also underground lines down shared driveways for the first span.

The power supply in the area should not be affected by the work, except for when the change over from the old overhead to the new underground service to a property is required. A short power outage will be needed for each property to complete this process. We’ll talk to affected customers before we carry out this work.

The works should only directly affect the road frontage outside each property for a small amount of the construction period.

To ensure a safe and smooth flow of traffic, full traffic management plans are in place for the area. The work sites have been designed so that pedestrians will still be able to pass by the works. In most cases, the flow of traffic will be maintained.

Hours of work are expected to be between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday, though work outside of these hours may be needed to suit project operational requirements.

Every effort will be made to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this project may cause and thank you for your cooperation while this work is underway.
