Project timing: April 2009 – October 2009
Vector has completed undergrounding of the overhead lines. Manukau City Council is now completing the footpath reinstatement.

Why the project is being carried out
This undergrounding project is being undertaken as part of the Auckland Energy Consumer Trust (AECT) and Vector’s long term plan to put the remaining overhead power lines underground in the urban areas of Auckland, Manukau and Papakura.

‘Dig once’ strategy
As part of our ‘Dig once’ strategy we will be coordinating our work with Telecom, and the overhead power and telephone lines will be replaced with underground cables at the same time. We are also working with Manukau City Council who will be installing new streetlights as part of this project.

Streets affected by this work include: Both sides of Bradbury Rd between (approximately) 13 and 123; a small area at the intersection of Bradbury Rd and Lexington Dr; and McCahill Views from 6A to the intersection with Bradbury Rd.

Project details:
All overhead lines in the street will be undergrounded. Customer power and phone lines within the area of works which are a single span (the customer is supplied directly from the network pole in the street) will be undergrounded. We will underground the lines down shared driveways for the first span (to the first pole).

Work will be staggered along the project route and will only directly affect the road frontage outside each property for a small amount of the construction period.

The power supply in the area should not be affected by the work, except for when the change over from the old overhead to the new underground service to a property is required. A short power outage will be needed for each property to complete this process. We’ll talk to affected customers before we carry out this work.

Traffic and pedestrian management
To ensure a safe and smooth flow of traffic, full traffic management plans are in place. The work sites have been designed so that pedestrians will still be able to pass by the works.

Hours of work
Hours of work are expected to be between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday, though work outside of these hours may be required

Every effort will be made to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this project may cause and thank you for your patience while this work is underway.
