Vector urges motorists to avoid CBD waterfront (27/11/08)

Traffic along the waterfront in the CBD is being affected by Vector works in the area. Vector is currently installing new electricity cables in the carriageway along the northern side of Quay Street and the number of lanes available has been reduced to a single lane in each direction around the worksite.

Project Manager Ian McBurney urges motorists to use alternative routes or avoid the area. “We appreciate that this project is causing traffic congestion in the immediate area and inconveniencing some commuters. We’d like to assure them that we are making every effort to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum and to finish the project as quickly as possible”. Work will be halted between 13 and 25 December to enable easy access to the area during the Christmas period. We will resume work on 27 December and endeavour to complete as much work as possible over the holiday period while traffic is at its quietest.

  • Now until 12 December - Quay Street (between Lower Albert and Tinley Streets): Both east-bound lanes will be closed where we are working. The west-bound traffic lanes will be changed to provide one east-bound lane and one west-bound lane.
  • Late December to early January - Fanshawe Street (between Lower Albert Street and Bradnor Lane): One lane will remain open in the one way section between Albert and Hobson Streets, and at least one in each direction between Hobson Street and Bradnor Lane.
  • Work will resume on Quay Street (between Lower Albert and Tinley Streets) in late December and be completed mid February: Both east-bound lanes will be closed where we are working. The west-bound traffic lanes will be changed to provide one east-bound lane and one west-bound lane.
