Catches mean cash for tsunami relief (18/1/05)

Vector today announced it will donate $3,000 to the tsunami relief fund for every dismissal by catch during the upcoming BLACKCAPS v FICA World XI three-match international series.

All proceeds from the matches will be directed to the New Zealand Cricket Tsunami Relief Fund. The fund will be distributed between World Vision and Cricket Aid – a Sri Lankan cricket initiative to provide emergency relief and then longer-term housing for Sri Lankan families and orphans.

Vector chairman Michael Stiassny says the three-match series is a noble cause which Vector is extremely pleased to be involved with.

“It will be a brilliant series of cricket played in good spirit which, most importantly, will provide much needed support to people who really need our help,” said Mr Stiassny.

“We commend New Zealand Cricket for initiating fund-raising events around this series and we look forward to providing a generous donation to the relief effort based on the number of players dismissed by a catch.”

Mr Stiassny also reiterated earlier calls for other companies and individuals to get behind the fundraising event.

“The Boxing Day tsunami was a devastating event that has touched almost every corner of the world. Every donation, regardless of its size, will provide much needed resources and hope to those who need to rebuild their lives.

Vector challenges other companies to also get behind this worthy cause and give generously.”

The series will run on January 22nd, 24th and 26th in Christchurch, Wellington and Hamilton respectively.
