Vector and the AECT today announced that they have started bringing down the lines in Sandringham as part of its multi-million dollar Sandringham undergrounding project, which began in May.
Thanks to Vector’s ‘Dig Once’ approach we are coordinating works with Telecom, Auckland City Council and Metrowater to completely enhance the area at the same time.
Project ambassador Peter Hy says that work is progressing well on the 9.6km project “We’ve removed over 60 power poles and bought down the lines in five streets already. 100 properties are now supplied power and telephone services on their new underground cables.”
Over the last few weeks, properties in Taumata Rd, Marne Rd, Eden View Rd, Haverstock Rd and Duncan Ave became the first to be switched over to the new underground power supply.
Chorus, Telecom’s new network business, has also switched most of these properties to the new underground phone lines and Auckland City Council has installed new streetlights in these streets. Metrowater has used the opportunity to inspect watermains and carry out upgrades as required.
Auckland City Council will begin work shortly permanently reinstating the footpaths where we have dug. “As we complete our undergrounding work we will temporarily reinstate the footpaths and driveways. The temporary reinstatement will remain in place until Auckland City Council begins work in the streets to complete the final paved area reinstatement,” says Mr Hy.
“We realise that our work can be disruptive for residents, but it will benefit the area in the long term. We appreciate the resident’s ongoing patience and cooperation.”
Peter Hy is on site at most times during working hours to help people with any questions or problems they may have. Alternatively people can call 0800 GO UNDERGROUND (0800 468 633) for more information on the project.
