Vector has helped the Auckland District Health Board contribute 13% of the public sector savings of CO2 emissions required under the Kyoto Protocol. The saving came about after coal fired boilers were converted to natural gas at New Zealand’s largest hospitals, Auckland Hospital and Greenlane Hospital.
Each gas boiler provides space heating, hot water, cooking and sterilisation, and delivers a massive 14.7MW of power at peak load, which is enough power to heat around 5,000 homes.
Vector has also assisted with the business case for this project by developing a long-term gas network pricing path and formalising this in a contracted Line Charges Agreement. This provides the Health Board with pricing certainty for their gas line charges for years to come, subject only to any regulatory or statutory changes. Such transparency and certainty in costs provides added confidence to companies and organisations looking to improve cost efficiencies.
